Setting Up a Custom Domain (SRV Records)

Connect your custom domain (like play.yourname.com) to your Chunkly server.

Two Ways to Connect

Method A: Standard Subdomain (Free)

Every Chunkly world automatically gets a free vanity subdomain like myserver.play.chunkly.net. Works out of the box with zero DNS setup required.

Method B: Your Own Custom Domain

If you own a domain (e.g. mycommunity.com on Cloudflare or Namecheap), you can create an SRV record so players join without typing a numeric port.

How to Create an SRV Record in Cloudflare

Log into your DNS provider (e.g. Cloudflare) and add the following two DNS entries:

Step 1: Create an A Record
  • Type: A
  • Name: mc (or whatever prefix you want)
  • IPv4 Address: Your Chunkly node IP address (from your panel)
  • Proxy status: DNS only (Grey cloud — Minecraft cannot proxy through HTTP Cloudflare CDN)
Step 2: Create an SRV Record
  • Type: SRV
  • Service: _minecraft
  • Protocol: _tcp
  • Name: play (this makes players join via play.yourdomain.com)
  • Priority: 0
  • Weight: 5
  • Port: Your assigned Minecraft port (e.g. 25565)
  • Target: mc.yourdomain.com

Testing Your Connection

DNS records typically propagate within 5 to 15 minutes. Once active, open Minecraft → Multiplayer → Add Server, and test connecting to play.yourdomain.com.
