How Much RAM Does a Minecraft Server Need in 2026?

· Updated

Searchers asking how much RAM a Minecraft server needs usually want a number they can buy today — not a lab benchmark. Here is the practical map we use for Chunkly Village and Kingdom SKUs.

2 GB — small friend hangouts

Campfire or Village 2GB covers 2–4 friends on vanilla, or a light Paper stack with a handful of QoL plugins. Fine for testing and private SMPs.

4 GB — the sweet spot for most SMPs

Village 4GB (€3.40/mo on Budget) runs full Paper/Purpur with a normal plugin set, light Fabric packs (Cobblemon-class), or vanilla with heavier redstone. This is where most “Minecraft server RAM” searches should land.

6–12 GB — medium to heavy modpacks

Better MC / Create-class packs often want 6–8 GB. ATM10, RLCraft, and GregTech-class packs commonly need 8–12 GB on Kingdom Premium. Always check the CurseForge or Modrinth pack page — that number beats any blog guess.

Too much RAM can add garbage-collection stutter on Java. Buy for your pack and player count, then upgrade later in Stripe without losing the world.

Use the plan picker or the RAM guide in docs for a SKU that matches your crew.
