Backups: Snapshots & Disaster Recovery

Protect your builds, player data, and plugins from griefing, corrupt chunks, or bad updates.

How Backups Work on Chunkly

All paid tiers (Village and Kingdom) include automated rolling backups stored on redundant storage arrays off-site from your primary compute node. Backups capture your entire file tree: world chunks, inventories, plugins, and configs.

Creating a Manual Snapshot

Always take a manual snapshot before updating Minecraft versions or testing a new plugin:

  1. Go to your world in the Chunkly Panel.
  2. Click the Backups tab.
  3. Click Create Backup Now.
  4. Enter a descriptive name (e.g. “Pre-1.21.4-Update”).
  5. Wait ~15–45 seconds while your files are compressed into an off-site archive.

Restoring a Previous Backup

Warning Before Restoring

Restoring a backup overwrites your current world files with the snapshot state. Any player progress or building done after the backup timestamp will be replaced.

  1. Stop your server using the Stop button on the dashboard.
  2. Go to the Backups tab.
  3. Locate the backup snapshot you want to restore.
  4. Click the Restore action button.
  5. Confirm the prompt. The panel will unpack your world files and restore your exact configuration.
  6. Once finished, click Start to boot the restored server.
